Your own nation and the chief priests have delivered you over to me. What have you done?” 36 Jesus answered, “My kingdom is not of this world. If my kingdom were of this world, my servants would have been fighting, that I might not be delivered over to the Jews. But my kingdom is not from the world.” 37 Then Pilate said to him, “So you are a king?” Jesus answered, “You say that I am a king. For this purpose I was born and for this purpose I have come into the world—to bear witness to the truth. Everyone who is of the truth listens to my voice.” 38 Pilate said to him, “What is truth?” After he had said this, he went back outside to the Jews and told them, “I find no guilt in him. 39 But you have a custom that I should release one man for you at the Passover. So do you want me to release to you the King of the Jews?” 40 They cried out again, “Not this man, but Barabbas!” Now Barabbas was a robber. John 19 1 Then Pilate took Jesus and flogged him. 2 And the soldiers twisted together a crown of thorns and put it on his head and arrayed him in a purple robe. 3 They came up to him, saying, “Hail, King of the Jews!” and struck him with their hands. 4 Pilate went out again and said to them, “See, I am bringing him out to you that you may know that I find no guilt in him.” 5 So Jesus came out, wearing the crown of thorns and the purple robe. Pilate said to them, “Behold the man!” 6 When the chief priests and the officers saw him, they cried out, “Crucify him, crucify him!” Pilate said to them, “Take him yourselves and crucify him, for I find no guilt in him.” 7 The Jews answered him, “We have a law, and according to that law he ought to die because he has made himself the Son of God.” 8 When Pilate heard this statement, he was even more afraid. 9 He entered his headquarters again and said to Jesus, “Where are you from?” But Jesus gave him no answer. 10 So Pilate said to him, “You will not speak to me? Do you not know that I have authority to release you and authority to crucify you?” 11 Jesus answered him, “You would have no authority over me at all unless it had been given you from above. Therefore he who delivered me over to you has the greater sin.” 12 From then on Pilate sought to release him, but the Jews cried out, “If you release this man, you are not Caesar's friend. Everyone who makes himself a king opposes Caesar.” 13 So when Pilate heard these words, he brought Jesus out and sat down on the judgment seat at a place called The Stone Pavement, and in Aramaic Gabbatha. 14 Now it was the day of Preparation of the Passover. It was about the sixth hour. He said to the Jews, “Behold your King!” 15 They cried out, “Away with him, away with him, crucify him!” Pilate said to them, “Shall I crucify your King?” The chief priests answered, “We have no king but Caesar.” 16 So he delivered him over to them to be crucified. Iată, nu a făcut nimic vrednic de moarte. 16 Aşadar, după ce-l voi pedepsi, îl voi elibera.” 18 Dar mulţimea a început să strige într-un glas: „La moarte cu El! Eliberează-ni-l pe Baraba!” 19 Baraba era închis pentru o răscoală pe care o stârnise în cetate şi pentru un omor. 20 Pilat le-a vorbit din nou, vrând să-l elibereze pe Iisus. 21 Dar ei strigau: „Răstigneşte-l! Răstigneşte-l!” 22 Pilat le-a spus a treia oară: „Dar ce rău a făcut Acesta? Nu-i găsesc nici o vină de moarte. Îl voi pedepsi, deci, şi-l voi elibera.” 23 Dar ei stăruiau, cerând cu strigăte puternice să-l răstignească. Iar strigătele lor au biruit. 24 Atunci Pilat a hotărât să le împlinească cererea. 25 L-a eliberat deci pe cel care fusese aruncat în temniţă pentru răscoală şi pentru crimă, cel pe care îl cereau ei, iar pe Iisus l-a lăsat în voia lor. Mark 15 1 Şi numaidecât dimineaţa, marii preoţi au făcut sfat împreună cu bătrânii şi cărturarii şi cu întreg sinedriul şi legându-l pe Iisus, l-au dus şi l-au predat lui Pilat. 2 Iar Pilat l-a întrebat: „Tu eşti regele iudeilor?” El i-a răspuns: „Tu zici!” 3 Atunci marii preoţi au început să-l învinuiască de multe lucruri. 4 Şi iarăşi Pilat l-a întrebat: „Nu răspunzi nimic? Uite de câte te învinuiesc ei.” 5 Dar Iisus n-a mai răspuns nimic, aşa încât Pilat s-a mirat. 6 Când era sărbătoare, el obişnuia să le elibereze un întemniţat pe care îl cereau ei. 7 Şi era unul numit Baraba, întemniţat împreună cu nişte răzvrătiţi, care uciseseră oameni în timpul răscoalei. 8 Iar mulţimea, urcându-se, a început să-i ceară să le facă după cum obişnuia. 9 Pilat le-a răspuns: „Vreţi să-l eliberez pe regele iudeilor?”, 10 fiindcă ştia că marii preoţi din invidie îl dăduseră în mâna lui. 11 Dar marii preoţi au aţâţat mulţimea ca să-l elibereze mai degrabă pe Barnaba. 12 Din nou i-a întrebat Pilat: „Şi ce vreţi să fac cu Cel căruia îi ziceţi regele iudeilor?” 13 Şi iarăşi ei au strigat: „Răstigneşte-l!” 14 „Dar ce rău a făcut?” a spus Pilat. Dar ei strigau şi mai tare: „Răstigneşte-l!” 15 Atunci Pilat, vrând să facă pe placul mulţimii, le-a eliberat pe Baraba, iar pe Iisus l-a biciuit şi l-a dat să fie răstignit. Pe Baraba sau pe Iisus, care se numeşte Hristos?” 18 Căci ştia că din invidie îl dăduseră pe Iisus în mâinile lui. 19 Pe când stătea Pilat pe scaun la judecată, soţia sa a trimis să-i spună: „Să n-ai nimic a face cu acest om drept, fiindcă azi am suferit mult în vis din cauza lui.” 20 Marii preoţi şi bătrânii au înduplecat poporul să-l ceară pe Baraba, iar pe Iisus să-l omoare. 21 Procuratorul le-a zis: „Pe care dinte cei doi vreţi să vi-l eliberez?” „Pe Baraba!” au răspuns ei. 22 Pilat le-a zis: „Dar ce să fac cu Iisus, care se numeşte Hristos?” „Să fie răstignit!” i-au răspuns cu toţii. 23 Procuratorul a zis: „Dar ce rău a făcut?” Ei au început să strige şi mai tare: „Să fie răstignit!” 24 Când a văzut Pilat că nu izbândeşte nimic, ba încă se face mai multă zarvă, a luat apă, şi-a spălat mâinile înaintea poporului şi a zis: „Eu sunt nevinovat de sângele acestui om drept. Vă priveşte!” 25 Şi tot poporul a răspuns: „Sângele lui să fie asupra noastră şi asupra copiilor noştri!” 26 Atunci Pilat le-a eliberat pe Baraba, iar pe Iisus, după ce a pus să-l bată cu nuiele, l-a dat în mâinile lor, ca să fie răstignit.
