1 Să ştii acest lucru: în zilele din urmă vor veni vremuri grele.2 Oamenii vor fi egoişti, iubitori de bani, lăudăroşi, aroganţi, hulitori, nesupuşi părinţilor, nerecunoscători, fără sfinţenie,3 fără inimă, neînduplecaţi, calomniatori, violenţi, cruzi, duşmani ai binelui,4 trădători, obraznici, îngâmfaţi, iubitori mai mult de plăceri decât de Dumnezeu,5 având o evlavie de formă, dar negându-i puterea. Fereşte-te de ei!6 Dintre ei sunt cei ce se strecoară prin case şi vânează femei pline de păcate, târâte de tot felul de pofte,7 care învaţă mereu, dar nu pot ajunge niciodată la cunoaşterea adevărului.8 După cum Iannes şi Iambres s-au ridicat împotriva lui Moise, tot aşa şi aceştia se împotrivesc adevărului, oameni stricaţi la minte, nevrednici în credinţă.9 Aceştia, însă, nu vor ajunge departe, pentru că nebunia lor va fi dată pe faţă înaintea tuturor, aşa cum s-a întâmplat şi cu aceia.10 Tu, însă, m-ai urmat în învăţătură, în purtare, în năzuinţă, în credinţă, în răbdare, în dragoste, în statornicie,11 în persecuţiile şi suferinţele pe care le-am pătimit în Antiohia, în Iconiu şi în Listra. Câte persecuţii am îndurat! Şi din toate m-a scăpat Domnul!12 Într-adevăr, toţi cei care vor să trăiască evlavios în Hristos Iisus vor fi persecutaţi.13 Iar oamenii răi şi înşelători vor merge din rău în mai rău, înşelându-i pe alţii şi fiind ei înşişi înşelaţi.14 Tu, însă, rămâi la lucrurile pe care le-ai învăţat şi de care eşti încredinţat, fiindcă ştii de la cine le-ai învăţat.15 Din copilărie cunoşti Sfintele Scripturi care pot să te facă înţelept pentru mântuire, prin credinţa în Hristos Iisus.16 Întreaga Scriptură este inspirată de Dumnezeu şi este de folos să înveţe, să mustre, să îndrepte, să educe în dreptate,17 pentru ca omul lui Dumnezeu să fie desăvârşit, bine pregătit pentru orice faptă bună.

1 Masters, treat your slaves justly and fairly, knowing that you also have a Master in heaven.2 Continue steadfastly in prayer, being watchful in it with thanksgiving.3 At the same time, pray also for us, that God may open to us a door for the word, to declare the mystery of Christ, on account of which I am in prison—4 that I may make it clear, which is how I ought to speak.5 Walk in wisdom toward outsiders, making the best use of the time.6 Let your speech always be gracious, seasoned with salt, so that you may know how you ought to answer each person.7 Tychicus will tell you all about my activities. He is a beloved brother and faithful minister and fellow servant in the Lord.8 I have sent him to you for this very purpose, that you may know how we are and that he may encourage your hearts,9 and with him Onesimus, our faithful and beloved brother, who is one of you.
