Văduva lui Mite
A poor widow stands at the temple treasury, lowering a small coin into the offering vessel while children cling close beside her. Behind her, wealthier worshipers wait with visible gifts in hand, creating the contrast at the heart of the Gospel account. The setting evokes the courts of the Jerusalem temple, where gifts were placed into offering receptacles and outward generosity could be seen by others.
The scene reflects Luke 21:1-4 and Mark 12:41-44, where Jesus teaches that the widow’s two small copper coins were greater than the large sums of the rich because she gave out of poverty, entrusting to God “all she had to live on.” The artwork emphasizes sacrificial giving, humble faith, stewardship, and the kingdom value of devotion measured not by amount, but by surrender.
